Sephora Splurges for Spring

The spring Sephora sale has started!  If I’m honest—I need new products like I need a hole in the head!—but of course, that’s not going to stop me.

I have a bunch of items sitting in my “loves” that I’m deciding between. I thought I’d lay out a few of the ones I’m considering the strongest to see if you have any experience with them and get your feedback. Since the sale ends on the 24th, I’ve got a little time before I hit the “purchase” button. I also thought I’d share a few items I’d recommend to you, products I’ve been using a lot lately, especially turning over from winter to spring/summer.

Tops on my “Loves” list:

First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer: I recently used up my Marc Jacobs Beauty coconut water primer. I will talk more about it in my next “Empties” post–and I’d give a spoiler–but I’m still thinking about it. I want to try this new primer by First Aid Beauty to compare. It’s much cheaper–the Marc Jacobs is stupid expensive–and I’m still not sure how I feel about primers, in general. So I’m curious to check this out.

COVER FX Illuminating Setting Spray: Tati sang its praises and I’m crazy for setting sprays. So I think I’m gonna give it a try.

tarte Rainforest of The Sea™ Color Splash Lipstick: I feel like I’ve heard good things about this new collection and the Tarte Lip Surgence is one of my favorite lip lines of all time. So I’m thinking of grabbing a few to check them off.

My recommendations:

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream: This one isn’t new—I mentioned it at the LAST Sephora sale during the holidays—but that was in a duo pack. I’ve tried other Sol de Janeiro products and this one is by far the star. With summer coming, this product is back in heavy rotation in my morning routine. And as you know—I hate putting on lotion—but I really love this product, especially the tightening and firming results.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Dry Shampoo: I heard about this product through a YouTuber—can’t remember which one—and ended up getting a sample of it—and fell in love. I love this scent and have it in my rotation, but I think I like it even better in this form. Every time I wear it, people comment on how good I smell, and it’s my hair! Jess definitely needs to check this one out! I’m going to pick up a full size with this sale.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eye Shadow Collection Palette: I’m in. I totally bought into the hype and picked this up during the holidays. I really liked the palette–shadow selection is great, quality is top-notch, smells divine–but I didn’t use it at all in the winter. I was way too into the Anastasia Beverly Hill Modern Renaissance palette–which I still totally recommend you pick up. But now that it’s warmed up, I’ve started reaching for this collection more.

Oh–and I’m totally getting this. Thanks, Jess!

So there you have it–more ways to spend money! 🙂 Will you be joining me? Any thoughts on the products I’mlooking at for the sale? What are you thinking about grabbing? (Make me feel better about my addiction. Please.)

  1. I’d love to hear a full review of the Bum Bum Cream. There is SO MUCH hype about it but it’s just so expensive for a body cream. Is it really worth the money? Does it really firm that much?

After hitting Ulta’s 21 Days sale pretty hard, I tried not to go crazy and only ordered three things from the VIB sale. I picked up something I’ve been lusting after (the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette), a favorite staple (Hourglass 1.5mm Mechanical Gel Eyeliner- three pack), and a new balm I tried in-store and loved (Farmacy Lip Bloom in Apple Rosemary). It’s amazing how such a small shopping cart can cost so much money. Oy!

Honorable mention: I very seriously considered the CoverFX drops in Halo but just couldn’t justify the cost for a single highlighter. They had a F&F sale over the weekend (25% off on their site) but still couldn’t pull the trigger. Have you tried this? I got a sample of the Moonlight one and freaking love it but the price for the full size has me hesitating.

    1. Ooh! What did you get through the Ulta sale? I didn’t end up geting anything this year! Just bad timing for me to stop by and get stuff.

I’m always looking for the perfect lip balm–I’ll have to give that a shot. And I’m curious about those pencils–I haven’t heard about them! I’ll be interested to hear what you think about the Ambient Lighting palette. I ended up returning mine. The pans were a little too small for me, if I recall.

I have so many highlighters and I rarely wear them. But those drops are sooo tempting…

      1. Holy balls, what didn’t I get?!? They offered free shipping without a minimum order for platinum members so it was WAY too easy to buy something almost every day (those devils know exactly what they are doing). So, I picked up:

        – Tarte blush
        – UD Blush
        – Too Faced Blush
        – IT Cosmetics powder foundation
        – Fiona Stiles face palette, eyeshadow primer, blush, and eyeliner
        – Anastasia Brow Wiz (I really wanted to pit this against the NYX one I have been using to see if they were truly dupes. They are totally the same! Glad I waited to buy it at 50% off.)
        – Stila Primer
        – Mally Beauty Blush and Highlight Set
        – UD Perversion mascara
        – Shiseido eyelash curler
        – Mario Badescu Vit C serum
        – Becca Backlight Primer
        – Julep Eyeshadow Sticks
        – Stila Eyeliner
        – Philosophy face wash

My god. It’s entirely frightening when I actually type it all out. I am now on a moratorium from all beauty spending for awhile. I think it is clear why. 😮

In related news, I will not need to buy blush for the rest of my life.

        1. I’m so glad you confirmed that the NYX brow pencil is, in fact, a dupe!! I never feel the need to try a more expensive option- this one hits all the right notes for me. 🙂

        2. Damn, girl!! That’s impressive! I’ve been on a blush kick lately (namely the Glossier Face Paints) but you have taken it to another level! 🙂 I really like Tarte blushes but I haven’t tried any of the other that you mention. In fact–I’m not sure I’ve tried any of your list aside from the Brow Wiz, Shiseido eyelash curler and UD Perversian mascara. We’ll definitely need a report back!

  2. I’m headed there today! My option of the Bum Bum – too smelly for me. I bought it after it was recommended (on this blog!) last year. I love the feel, but there’s too much aroma for me. Returned it.

    1. Yes–it definitely has a scent. I happen to really like it–but if you don’t–I can see if being a deal breaker!

Let us know what you ended up picking up at the sale!
